Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a famous surprise attack by the Japanese on a naval fleet that was stationed there. The attack killed many people, harmed the U.S's naval defenses, and sunk many ships, but the United States and its people were able to respond accordingly. The day after the attack occurred, President Roosevelt gave a speech to the people calling for war. He described the Japanese as a menace that needed to be dealt with, and he reacted accordingly to their attacks. Congress nearly unanimously approved the call to war and the next day we had declared war on the country of Japan. A few days after that, Germany and Italy both declared war on the United States. It was at this point that we realized that we had become fully involved in World War 2.
